About The Author I had an idyllic childhood in southern New Jersey with my parents, two brothers, a series of slightly silly dogs, and lots and lots of books. When I was in elementary school, I discovered that I loved to write. Imagine how thrilled I was when a Halloween poem I’d written was posted on the bulletin board in the school’s corridor for everyone to read. When I was in college, I discovered that science is absolutely fascinating. So after college, I went on to get a master's degree in biochemistry. I worked for a number of years doing research in molecular biology. Molecular biologists study the parts of the cell that make you you and not, say, a banana slug. While working as a scientist, I helped to write things with titles such as “A Novel Deletion-Ligation Reaction Catalyzed in vitro by a Developmentally Controlled Activity from Tetrahymena Cells." (Say that three times fast.) I married the world's most wonderful man, and we have three terrific daughters. After I became a mother, I began to write for children. I had a lot to learn! But one of the most wonderful things about being a writer is that I absolutely have to read books. Seeing how other authors craft their stories is all part of the process of becoming a better writer. What a great way to learn! Now our family lives an idyllic life on the central coast of California, with some slightly silly dogs, assorted other critters, and – you guessed it - lots and lots of books. I still love to write, and look forward to learning and writing every day! |
